I've started The Defenders, although I only got to the first episode before chores and then my Fire table disappearing. Set up seems good and if this first episode is anything to go by, relationships will be a big part of the story.

I did read a writer friends mostly spoiler free review and he pointed out that the entire Marvel Netflix would be so much better had they done rewrites to remove the Hand from the plot. Every series was strong or well centered until the Hand we brought in, arguably forced in. Even Danny's story worked much better as just the Meachums as the bad guys and lost its footing pretty quickly when it went mystic Asian; not that it had a strong footing. Maybe if someone who respect Asian cultures, and the fact that Chinese does not equal Japanese, etc, the mystic elements could've worked, but we aren't allowed nice things.

Welcome back to another week. I hope yours is a good one.

What is a simple pleasure your pup enjoys? I'm thinking thing like getting into bed when the sheets have been freshly changed, curling up with a blanket fresh from the dryer, or a hot towel to wipe your face with. That sort of thing.

And what about you?

1. Left foot OFF the pedal
2. Down collective (while saying the words 'Down collective')
3. Roll the throttle off (while saying the words 'close throttle')
4. Right pedal (while saying the words 'right pedal as needed')
5. Lift collective about an inch (while saying the words 'Check collective')
5. Announce something scatological (do not actually do anything scatological at this time)

While an actual engine-failure-inspired autorotation has to be done very quickly and without hesitation, the practice ones can be handled at a slightly slower pace to make sure you learn to do them quickly. Turns out that if you announce each step out loud it paces you properly, plus if you announce 'Down collective! Close throttle! Right pedal! Check collective! Piss your pants!', you feel much, much less need to actually dump core in any way.

1. I already finished most of that paid translation job, so I don't have to worry about spending a lot of my day off on it.

2. Tonight's Rick and Morty was pretty good. I liked the Rick and Jerry plotline a lot. (I love Jerry, so I'm glad that him and Beth being separated hasn't meant he's totally out of the picture.)

3. This Molly!

1. Had some leftover curry tonight for dinner and it was so good and I'm sad there's only a little bit left, so I think I'm going to have to make that again this coming week. (I'm glad the weather's cool enough that I feel like cooking again.)

2. Over the past couple days two slacker employees turned in their two weeks notice, which saved me the trouble of having to fire them.

3. Speaking of cooler weather, Chloe's been cuddling up in the bed again now that it's not so hot.

Similar to the logic puzzle, it's been a few years since we've had a post on how to search through community tags with html. Here's a refresher course, with some additional information given that I've learned some new tricks.

Searching through tags, how to get around that weird error, and searching by journal name for people without tags )

So, it's been a few years since we had one of these, so why not? Solve the puzzle by finding out which drinks, rooms, room numbers, and pets belong to whom, and what the pets are named.

Bonus question: Name the plant.

1. There are five "rooms" in a row, listed left to right (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
2. Jay spends his time in the garage.
3. Emcee drinks gin.
4. The person who lives in the sauna has a pet named Annabelle.
5. Bonnie's pet is called John, after her sons.
6. The sauna is just to the left of the corner of the bar.
7. The person who owns a dog drinks coffee.
8. An unnamed plant lives at the practice range.
9. The person in the middle room has an animal named George.
10. Chirrut likes room number 1.
11. The cockatiel lives next door to the person who drinks green tea.
12. The person who owns the plant lives next door to the person who drinks water.
13. Hans the glittery rock "lives" next door to the sauna.
14. Oswin owns a cat.
15. Chirrut's room is next door to the lake.
16. Jay owns George.
17. Annabelle's owner drinks chai tea.
18. Emcee sings in the corner of the bar.

Here is a nifty link that will draw a graph for you. I'll post the solution here on Wednesday.

So, I wanted to get AU Week out of the way before I announced this, but I might as well do it now.

Me and Zed were talking a couple of weeks back about the fact that there was no way to get digital only content, like Orange Is The New Black and The Tick, in Milliways. I talked to our very awesome mods, and our ideas have been accepted and approved.

This means that Milliways now has a repository for web originals located in the library next to the DVDs and Blu-rays, and your pup can now get a terminal to access the new computer network. The network is designed to allow sharing of content, inter-Bar emails and stuff like that. Still no true internet, though.

Hope you guys enjoy, and thanks to Zed for the repository idea, as well as the invaluable advice.

Happy RPing!

Wow, people, that was amazing! Who'd have thought there could be a succulent AU! And all the other amazing ideas people were posting and threading out.

Thanks ever so much for participating, and thanks to Munnin, my partner in crime, for doing most if the organising work this year, as I am laid up in hospital and relegated to using my Kindle Fire tablet in between medical stuff happening. Still, it's amazing it was possible at all; we all live in the future now!

I suppose we can keep playing for the rest of the weekend, finishing off ideas and threads, but perhaps no new AU EPs once it's officially Monday? Then normalcy can return. As soon as we've established what's normal, anyway.

Let's do this again next year.

1. Yesterday we noticed the cats have fleas, so I went to the pet store first thing this morning and got some flea treatment and we've already seen a few dead fleas, so hopefully that will take care of things.

2. It is really chilly tonight!

3. I've got manga ready to post tomorrow (had meant to do it tonight, but too tired).

4. Look at this Jasper! So grown up looking!

Social media and the news (plus a number of other stressors) are making me tachycardia city all day, every day. I am going to try and just... stay off all screens this weekend, if possible. Maybe email me, maybe text me, but like... the world is just not working right now.

At the tail end of AU week, I'm stealing an idea fractalmuses shared with me on Discord.

If your pup were to be in a Star Wars AU, what would their role be? Or what if it were a Star Trek AU instead? Would they be in Starfleet? If so, what branch: command, operations, or sciences?

1. I got a small paid translation job tonight. Due Tuesday morning Japan time, which means Monday evening for me, so that gives me plenty of time. A lot of times when these guys ask me it's super last minute and the time zones make it impossible, so I'm always happy when it's one I can take.

2. I made chocolate chip cookies. Haven't done any baking in ages since it's been such warm weather, but it really hasn't been bad the last week or so and it really didn't heat up the house too much to make these.

3. I finished another book today, which puts me at fifty books so far for the year. I can't believe it! My goal was originally twenty! It's at sixty now, but I think I'm going to have to end up upping it again at this rate.

4. Molly was sleeping with her paw over her face, and when I went to take her picture, she moved her head but still kept her paw in the same place, which was super cute.

Weekly Reading

What are you currently reading?
I read about a chapter more on Attack of the Theater People, but that's it. I think I've only managed to read before bed one time this last week, and every other night I stayed up too late and went straight to sleep. (Even the nights I went to bed early I was too tired to read.)

What did you recently finish reading?
I finally finished The History of Forgetting. This book was kind of a mish-mash of the history of LA, LA in fiction, and some actual fiction about LA. The latter is the weakest part of the book and I think dropping it would have made it a better book overall. A random sixty-page novella dropped in the middle of a work of non-fiction could possibly be made to work, but it didn't here, at least not for me.

I did like the parts that were actual history of LA and a look at how LA has been portrayed in books and movies over the years. This was published about twenty years ago and a lot has changed downtown since then, and I'd be interested to see the author's thoughts on those changes. It looks like an updated version of the book was released about ten years ago, but even that was before the real downtown revival.

What do you think you'll read next?
Well, I have three books marked "currently reading" on Goodreads that I haven't actually started on, so hopefully one or more of those! People in Trouble by Sarah Schulman is what I just added to GR tonight as my current physical book. I read several books by her a few years ago and really liked them, but for some reason never read the last two I had bought at that time, and when looking for a new book to read tonight after finishing A History of Forgetting, I spotted them and decided to go with that. I've also still got Hollow City, though since I'm also reading Attack of the Theater People, idk if I will actually make any progress on this until I finish that, since I don't like switching between ebooks. Then finally I've got The Big Picture: Murals of Los Angeles, which I found in a pile of books on the curb the other day while out on our evening walk.

What are some of your character’s cheesiest--for lack of a better word--canon lines? Cheesy can be a lot of things, good and bad--bombastic, corny, clunky, earnest, facile, overwritten, overacted, over-the-top in one way or another… Does it make you cringe every time, or do you kind of love it?

(NB: I’m asking as someone whose character actually says “There is no stopping it! There is only…...THE WAR.”)

This AU week is full of great stuff and a returning Milliwaysers too. I'm only listing three here, fill up the comments with what you're loving.

Ibani continues to be heartbreaking.

Star Wars as Star Trek with Hera, Kanan and Thrawn is so cool. I love this.

Succulent AU, I love that this happened.
