I successfully guessed two of my Yuletide authors' identities! I beta'd a fabulous Young Avengers fic for [archiveofourown.org profile] Dett, who then turned around and wrote me pale blue eyes; I also figured out that [personal profile] littledust wrote If You're Down to Get Down, after incorrectly accusing her of being the mystery author behind The Rule of Cool (when really, IT WAS [personal profile] skygiants ALL ALONG). I never in a million years would have guessed, though, that the same person wrote both my Hellboy and Static Shock gifts! All the props to [archiveofourown.org profile] mtgat for Fire and Water and the Car That Went Zoom and with the roses of the may. THANK YOU, EVERYONE! What a Yuletide. ♥

Now that reveals have gone up (on that note: SOME OF Y'ALL WERE FUCKING SNEAKY AND ARE GOING TO RECEIVE EMAILS SHORTLY), I can post this! I was probably overthinking it but thought that a certain omission toward the end of the alphabet might tank my secret identity. To the last few recs!

Merry Christmas, y'all who celebrate, and happy day-off to everyone who doesn't! I hope you have had as lazy and lovely a day as I have. I'm writing this from in front of the Christmas tree, watching the snow fall, so life is pretty fucking grand. IT'S YULETIDE! Amazing Yuletide presents: I HAVE THEM! There is a Madness treat waiting for me as well, apparently, because I contain a multitude of riches this year; I'll add it to this post tomorrow when that archive opens!

EDIT: There were two Madness treats, and I am now officially that ridiculous (SO LUCKY) bastard who got every single one of her requests! This is me right now, with all of my gifts. I saw my letter go out on the pinch hit list; thank you, pinch hitters and treat writers of the world. ♥

Hellboy! Gravity Falls! Young Avengers! Static Shock! )

Happy Yuletide, gang! The servers are robust and the Force is with my quest to read the entire archive.

Dear Yuletide writer,

OH MAN, YOU'RE THE BEST!!! Yuletide is my favorite time of year and I'm so excited that you are into one of my teeny fandoms; thank you so much for writing a fic for me! Two quick things before I really get my babble going here: I know people sometimes wonder whether holiday-themed stories would be cool with their recipients; they'd be cool with me, if you wanted to go that route! Also cool with me if it's something that comes up: inventing/using original characters as needed!

Things that I love: friendships and family (both blood-related-family and found-family) and people being concerned about & caring for each other, and protecting each other. I'm a sucker for the occasional hurt/comfort. I love nerds, high school narratives, college narratives, competence, humor, and superheroes/spies/spooky supernatural stories. I'm cool with violence and/or sex scenes as long as they work in the context of the story. I tend to prefer stories that mesh well with the general feeling of the source canon; ie: not taking a light-hearted sitcom canon and writing a darkfic of torture and death and maimery. I love humor and warm moments, but if it matches with the canon's feel, I can absolutely go for sadder, darker stuff as well. Go with your own judgment and have fun writing, and I will be absolutely delighted!

Things that I'm usually not into in fiction: incest, explicit rape scenes, infidelity, alternate universe fic (except for Groundhog Day style fics; they are my AU achilles heel), porn without plot.

Now I'm going to talk about request ideas and ramble a bit about what I like about these characters/canons! Please take all of it with many grains of salt; I'm chucking out a bunch of information in the hopes that something in it will be helpful to you, not because I intend it to be a laundry list of stuff that I ~*expect*~ to see in a fic!! I am a windbag when it comes to canons I love. I apologize in advance. Seriously, I am a chronic over-talker, so if you're someone who prefers to work with less outside detail, you can definitely stop reading this letter here!

Requests! Gravity Falls; Hellboy; Static Shock; Young Avengers )

I come bearing a request!!!

I have a long flight coming up, so I'm looking for ways to amuse myself. (I'm also investing in Tylenol PM, but I'm dubious about whether it's actually going to drug me the way that I want it to.) If I had my choice, I would happily sit and watch hours of Capital Scandal and Golden Girls for the entirety of the flight, but it turns out that the airline doesn't offer electrical outlets (the airline's U.S. arm? has power outlets for every seat. the international arm? zero. wow, how delightful! >:(((( ), and my laptop only has 20-30 minutes of battery life before it gives up and shuts the fuck down.

I don't generally enjoy the in-flight entertainment and my #1 choice for keeping myself entertained and chill isn't going to be available due to the shitty outlet situation, so I'm looking for fic recommendations, the longer the better. I like reading in any fandoms that I'm even remotely familiar with (the list of fandoms on my AO3 is pretty good; I'm also into Avengers, Leverage, Young Avengers, Static Shock, New Girl, iCarly, Psych, Archer, Happy Endings, Deadpool, most iterations of Sherlock Holmes, etc. etc.), but I'll totally read AUs/good fics for fandoms I don't know, too (case in point: I'm not interested in Teen Wolf but I read a long Stiles/Derek AU where Stiles is a kindergarten teacher and Derek is raising his nephews because I was procrastinating it sounded cute).

All of which is a long way of saying: could you please drop me some links to your favorite (preferably lengthy and on the happier side, but I'll take pretty much anything) fics on AO3? I'm going to fill my iPod with PDFs and spend a couple hours reading. Thanks, you guys; I would really appreciate it.

(life update: moved out of my flat, still writing my dissertation, still not king, etc. etc.)

Title: Thicker Than Water
Fandom: Glee
Rating: PG
Characters: Kurt Hummel/Blaine Anderson; Hummel-Hudson and Anderson parents, Tina Cohen-Chang, Rachel Berry, Cooper Anderson
Count: 7688 words
Summary: The holidays can be easy or they can be fraught, Blaine finds, especially when you're intending to spend the rest of your life with your high school boyfriend and your family tilts toward the dysfunctional end of the scale.

Notes: This is for my lovely Box Scene project winner [tumblr.com profile] moongirl24! With a thousand apologies to both of my winners, for how slow their fics have been in coming, and with thanks to [tumblr.com profile] youmooveme for her Broadway expertise.

Stuff That Is Neat: a charity put a copy of a Glee script up for auction. It was from an episode that contained a Kurt/Blaine scene that had been cut from what actually aired, which was particularly disappointing because fandom had spent ages gleefully Tumblr-CSIing the shit out of the promo pictures and rolling with happiness over the scene's existence. "THE BOX SCENE!!!" became something of a rallying cry.

So when the script went up for auction, a group of folks mostly from the Kurt/Blaine corner of Glee fandom got together and raised $4200 to win it and benefit the charity, which provides meals for people living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County. Then the organizers (who will be posting the script online) saw that they had raised $1200 more than necessary and said, 'HMM,' and now are fundraising to send that extra money and more to Project Angel Food.

They're doing a fandom giveaway, where every $5 donated constitutes a raffle ticket. After donating, donors go to the giveaway board and drop their raffle ticket(s) in the place(s) where they're hoping to win an item. There's lots of stuff available -- fic and art and fanvid commissions, merch, Broadway playbills... I donated what I could and am offering up two fics of at least 3000 words each, about whatever the winner desires! I'm figuring any interest will probably primarily come from Glee folks, and specifically from Kurt/Blaine fans, but y'all know me and the fandoms that I like, so I don't have much in the way of qualms about saying that I'd be willing to try pretty much anything, as long as you know that I'm not your woman for PWP smut, darkfic, infidelity, or incest. (And, if you do want Glee stuff, that you really don't want me trying to write anything starring Karofsky or Sebastian.) This is my raffle jar.

There's been a lot of discontent surrounding the finale (my own included; we'll discuss in another time and place!), so I particularly love the idea of fandom coming together and building something really positive and lovely right now! I'm aware of at least one other project where a group from the fandom came together and raised a bunch of money for charity (I think in the end it was $6000 or $7000, which went to the Trevor Project), and all of the times that I've witnessed fandom pull together around individual members in trouble or raise money after natural disasters -- it just makes me so happy.

I want to point people this way every time they don't understand or disparage fandom. Fandom is totally a worthwhile endeavor on its own merits, too, but fandom gets shit done.

Title: May the Best Man Win
Fandom: Glee
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Finn Hudson, Cooper Anderson, Kurt Hummel/Blaine Anderson; appearances by Burt & Carole, Rachel, Mercedes, and others
Count: 8945 words
Summary: Finn Hudson and Cooper Anderson are possibly not the most unselfish best men in the world.
Notes: I took flashfic prompts and [tumblr.com profile] wehavethemjustwheretheywantus asked for Finn and Cooper trying to out-best-man each other, and this sort of ... exploded. It contains douchebaggery and absolutely absurd amounts of sappy shit, even by my standards; you have been warned.

Don't think I didn't notice you and Cooper using Blaine and me as pawns in a deeply uncomfortable 20-minute game of dueling lap dances last night. )

Title: Sharing Is Caring
Fandom: Glee
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Kurt Hummel/Blaine Anderson, Emma Pillsbury
Count: 3553 words
Summary: Blaine and Kurt finish a conversation in the guidance office and go forward from there. Also, there are pamphlets.
Notes: I just really needed cuddles after that episode, man.

Blaine isn’t sure he has any more feelings left to express. )

LADIES CELEBRATING LADIES

Galentine's Day call to action/love meme | Galentine's Day Ladyfest Prompt Meme

February 13 may not be a national holiday just yet (Leslie Knope's working on it [link goes to animated gifset on Tumblr]), but in the meantime, we can start a little early.

I have to impress the head of the department in a dissertation proposal meeting tomorrow (oh god, not tomorrow, today) afternoon, but after that, my week off begins, and you bet your ass that these two posts are where you are going to find me all weekend long, subjecting the world to the horrors of my artistic genius telling y'all how great I think you are and writing drabbles.

Count: 9570 words, this part; 24,100 total
Summary: Kurt is an up-and-coming New York City wedding planner working on the biggest wedding of his career, and Blaine is the frontman of an unfortunately-named band from New Jersey. Booking an untested band with a distracting lead singer is either going to be the best or the worst decision that Kurt has ever made. He's not sure which, just yet.
Notes: For [personal profile] unicorndust. To the real people who are mentioned here: god I hope you never come across this, and I'm sorry for what I have wrought.

Kurt hasn't cried since the very first wedding that he planned, when he was 16 and thought it would be the epitome of romance and class to have a cage full of glitter-pooping doves. )

Notes: For [personal profile] unicorndust, because I was too slow to finish the entire thing on her actual birthday. I initially misjudged how long this thing was going to be and changed the number of parts accordingly; I think it will be three, but maybe four? Part 1 on Dreamwidth or on LiveJournal.

I am making my slow-ass, determined way through the archives, one alphabet letter at a time! (I'M ON TO THE G's! I'll get to Z eventually!) As for my own Yuletide this year, I wrote seven fics in six fandoms for a total of 14,500 words; I obviously can't confirm or deny anything until after the first, but anyone who successfully guesses one of mine will win a ~*prize*~.
